The new administrative capital in Egypt August 21, 2022 –

Within the framework of the new republic that was inaugurated and led by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and whose address is considered to be the new administrative capital, Major General Ahmed Abdeen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the New Administrative Capital Company, received Monsignor Dr. Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, President of the Foundation for Human Fraternity and former Personal Secretary of His Holiness Pope Francis, as a first step to complete the allocation of the land of the Bambino Gezo Maternity and Childhood Hospital. The meeting was attended by His Excellence Dr. Hala Mostafa Zayed, member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees and former Minister of Health and Population, Mr. Piero Luigi Rolando Donato, Vice President of the Foundation and Director of the Italian Hospital in Cairo, and Counselor Amir Ramzy, President of the Good Shepherd Foundation in Egypt.

With the signing of the contracts, the construction stages of the Maternity and Childhood Hospital will begin in cooperation with the Bambino Gezo Hospital of the Vatican, which is one of the largest treatment and research centers in the field of childhood and hereditary and rare diseases in Europe, and is one of the few centers that performs all types of transplantation of organs, cells and tissues in children.

The Egyptian Hospital will be established on approximately 10 thousands square meters to become also a center for scientific research, treatment of genetic diseases and maternity care before and during pregnancy and after childbirth, thanks to the continuous communication with the mother hospital, which will undertake the preparation and training of the medical staff and nursing team.

Dr. Hala Zayed and Monsignor Yoannis Gayed thanked President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, for his support of the Children's Hospital (Bambino Gesù) project in Egypt, as part of his keenness to pay attention to development work under the umbrella of the new republic.

This step came after years of hard work by a team of doctors from the Italian Bambino Gesù Hospital and Italian and Egyptian engineers to present an integrated project that takes into account all modern scientific standards, whether in designs or in medical devices or in preparing medical, nursing and administrative staff, taking into account the provision of all health and social services to all the needy and help poor families.

Monsignor Yoannis Lahzi Gaid, after the meeting, said that His Holiness Pope Francis’ approval to establish the first hospital in the world to bear the name of the Bambino Gesù outside Italy is a confirmation of the special status that His Holiness holds for the people of Egypt, who received him as a dear guest in 2017, and for His Excellency Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, whereas the medical city was chosen in the new administrative capital because it is the exemplary icon of the unprecedented renaissance which the land of Kenana (Egypt) is going through in all areas.

Monsignor Yoannis Gaid also thanked the Minister of Health, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, who attaches great importance to this national project. He also thanked Major General Ahmed Zaki Abdeen, Chairman and Managing Director of the New Administrative Capital Company, for his welcome and understanding of the Foundation's demands and for providing all possible facilities for the success of the project.

The Human Fraternity Foundation is based on the human fraternity Document, signed by the Holy Father Pope Francis and by the Grand Imam Dr Ahmad Al Taib. It has the sole objective of supporting the needy, helping the poor and the sick, as well as spreading the culture of brotherhood and coexistence.
