Pope Francis Blesses and Donates Mobile Medical Clinics to Egypt
Vatican City, November 20, 2024 – His Holiness Pope Francis today received a delegation from the Egyptian Human Fraternity Foundation, led by Minister Nabila Makram, a member of the Foundation's advisory board. Also in attendance were Ambassador Mahmoud Talat, Egypt's ambassador to the Holy See; Ambassador Inas Makawi, the Arab League's ambassador to Rome; and Monsignor Dr. Youannis Lahzi Gaid, president of the Human Fraternity Foundation.
The delegation was at the Vatican to discuss the donation of two fully equipped mobile medical clinics, a joint initiative undertaken in collaboration with Rome's Gemelli and Bambino Gesù hospitals, Hospitals Without Borders, the RI International Group, and companies such as Teladoc, Butterfly, and Medwand.
Pope Francis expressed his deep satisfaction with this initiative, highlighting its alignment with the values of the Document on Human Fraternity, which he signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019. He emphasized that these mobile clinics will provide essential healthcare services to those most in need, regardless of their background.
Minister Makram expressed her gratitude to Pope Francis for his continued support of Egypt and his commitment to promoting human fraternity. She highlighted the unique relationship between Pope Francis, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Pope Tawadros II, and emphasized the importance of this initiative in improving the lives of Egyptians.
Monsignor Gaid explained that this project is part of the foundation's broader mission to provide healthcare services to underserved communities throughout Egypt. These mobile clinics, equipped with the latest medical technology, will enable doctors to reach remote areas and provide essential medical care, including diagnostics, vaccinations, and medications.
The Egyptian Human Fraternity Foundation is also involved in a number of other humanitarian projects, such as the Oasis of Mercy orphanage in Cairo, and the "Human Fraternity" restaurant chain, which provides free meals to those in need. Additionally, the foundation is working on the construction of a specialized hospital in Cairo, dedicated to treating rare and genetic diseases.
